What stories would you tell?

Stories told in this world and in others, and perhaps even stories told in the world I come from, too.

Do you have a preference, Yaha?

I like love stories.

Do your children, also?

I think that they do.

My entire life is a love story.

Are you partial to love stories, then?

I prefer tragedies.

Of course. Especially when I feature in them.

Why tragedies?

It's like that, is it? Perhaps I'll remember that for when I am telling stories later on.

[Isley chuckles.]

As for tragedies...

[A quiet sigh.]

There are a number of things people do not find in life, but they always manage to find tragedy. Or...it finds them.

Oh, would you be willing to insert me into your love?

[ He laughs softly. ]

... yes... yes they do...

My love? Oh, no. But my stories, perhaps. If you had no objection to being submersed in tragedy at the same time.

[He matches that laugh with one of his own, though it's not quite as soft this time.]

Why do you prefer love stories, Yaha?

I suppose. So long as it has a happy ending...

Because... it as you say. So many people only find tragedy and no love in their lives. That's why I prefer love stories most... because they're fantasy. Such beautiful fantasies... of warmth and acceptance.

There's a tale I know that you may like. While it's common in the world where it originates from, I was quite taken with the story when I first read it.

I'm not certain its ending is necessarily happy... [A pause.] That might be dependent on the reader's perspective. All the same, it is a lovely story.
